Looking to double down on the Prius’s sterling reputation as one of the most highly reputable green vehicles worldwide, Toyota has decided to develop its first-ever pure electric vehicle (EV). The vehicle, which is set to be based on the vehicle manufacturer’s e-TNGA platform, was teased by Toyota as it is set to be marketed across Europe.
While Toyota has only revealed an outline for its upcoming EV, the Japanese automotive giant explained that the new pure EV will be approximately the same size as the RAV4 and the Forester. The SUV also poses a striking resemblance to one that the company revealed during the announcement of its partnership with Subaru.
Although Toyota initially never planned to fully immerse itself in the EV market, the multi-national company revealed that it plans to release as many as 5.5 million electric vehicles per year up until 2025. Just some of the vehicles that the Japanese manufacturer intends to release include hybrids, pure electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
Toyota deputy chief officer Koji Toyoshima announced that they plan to mass-produce EVs with solid-state battery packs in the first half of the next decade.
