Italia Trasporto Aereo, the new state-owned Italian airline that is commenced operations on Friday, is expecting to benefit from a major investment by another airline within the next year, Chairman Alfredo Altavilla revealed. This airline is the successor to Alitalia, which was shut down on the same day that Italia Trasporto Aereo began operations.
According to Altavilla, the new airline is too small to survive as a standalone company. For this reason, the company is being managed in a way that would make it an attractive investment for more established airlines.
The plan to attract a major investment has been in place since the formation of the airline, to be dubbed ITA Airways, commenced.
As a former top aide to ex-Fiat Chrysler chief Sergio Marchionneltavita, Altavilla was quick to compare the launch of ITA Airways to the revival experienced at Chrysler when company reformation commenced.
“I do remember very well how thankful people at Chrysler were when they got a second opportunity. I sincerely hope, wish and trust that the people working with ITA today feel that they have been given the opportunity that they deserve.”
Altavilla further revealed that he had been approached by all of the major carriers of Europe as well as Delta Airlines over the possibility of forming a strategic alliance.
