COVID-19 vaccine maker Moderna is looking to deliver its shipment of vaccines promised to Germany earlier than expected, Dan Staner, its European head, stated on Thursday. The biotech firm is aiming to deliver 80 million doses by the end of 2021, a figure that is in line with the expectations of the German health ministry.
“Moderna hopes to provide the doses planned for Germany in the third quarter earlier to support the fastest possible progress on vaccinations,” Staner told German weekly business news magazine WirtschaftsWoche. Should this goal be met, the shipment will be delivered significantly sooner than was initially expected.
Following their arrival in the country, Germany’s shipment of Moderna vaccines is expected to be administered by family doctors’ practices as well as vaccination centers. Moderna is also looking to supply booster shots in the autumn months for those who were already inoculated in January and February of 2021.
In addition to the 80 million unit delivery, Moderna is currently in talks with the German government over setting up production for its mRNA vaccines within the country, along with other countries in Europe.
