Biotech firm Moderna and ride-sharing company Uber have announced their intention to partner up in an effort to promote coronavirus vaccine distribution and improve ease of access.
In an announcement on Tuesday, the companies revealed that the first stage of their partnership would involve providing the public with “credible information” on vaccine safety via the in-app messaging available on the Uber app.
The next phase of the joint project would include improving consumers’ access to available coronavirus vaccines. The companies have committed to cooperating with public health organizations to develop initiatives such as incorporating ride scheduling into the immunization appointment process.
There’s also the possibility of integrating vaccine providers’ systems with customers’ Uber accounts so that they’re able to receive text reminders of upcoming immunization appointments as well as reminders to book rides in advance so as to arrive on time.
According to a company statement, Uber has committed to providing its customers with millions of free or discounted rides in an effort to increase access to coronavirus vaccinations. As a result of Uber’s joint efforts with Moderna, Uber shares rose by 7.22% to $58.54 by Tuesday’s close.
