Lucid’s next SUV is slipping further into the future. The company’s smaller Cosmos model, described as a mid-size SUV and previously expected in 2026, is now set to arrive no earlier than 2027, according to comments made alongside its second-quarter earnings report.
The update came as Lucid reported a wider-than-expected loss and a slight miss on revenue, while declining to revise its 2026 outlook. New chief executive Silvio Napoli said the company is pursuing an “operational reset,” including efforts to improve cash flow, reduce capital spending, and trim vehicle inventory. Lucid also pointed to a new organizational structure introduced after last month’s C-suite changes as part of that effort.
Napoli said the company does not want to repeat past mistakes by bringing products to market before they are ready. He said Cosmos is likely to launch in 2027, with the second half of that year appearing the most likely window, though he left open the possibility that it could take even longer. The SUV had only been shown in silhouette form earlier this year, and Lucid has provided relatively little detail about it so far.
The delay also comes as Lucid continues to manage questions about its finances and broader production ramp. The company recently dismissed rumors of imminent bankruptcy and said again in its earnings report that it has enough liquidity to last into 2027. Even so, the pushback suggests Lucid is prioritizing stability and execution over speed as it works to expand its lineup in a competitive EV market.
