Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has revealed his company’s intention to repair its somewhat deteriorating relationship with Apple Inc. “We will pursue opportunities with Apple,” Gelsinger announced during a conference call regarding Intel’s upcoming business plans on Tuesday evening.
It was during the later stages of 2020 that Intel’s 15-year relationship with Apple began to waiver. After deciding to begin the in-house production of chips for its upcoming Mac computers, the tech giant made the fateful decision to base its M1 chips on Arm architecture, rather than utilizing Intel’s x86 chips.
In addition to repairing Intel’s ties with Apple, Gelsinger has also revealed his company’s intention to keep all of its chip production in house, as opposed to outsourcing certain stages of the process. This move is expected to make the most strategic sense for the processor manufacturer.
During a conference call with company stakeholders, Gelsinger revealed how he viewed Intel’s chipmaking capabilities as a key strategic advantage. This statement was very much a reiteration of the CEO’s initial views after taking charge in February.
Currently, Intel’s strategy aimed at keeping chip manufacturing in-house seems to be well underway. The technology company has already planned to inject $20 million into the construction of two new manufacturing facilities in Arizona.
