An Afghan man identified as Sharif Ahmadzai has arrived at the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Athens Court of First Instance in connection with the death of a Scottish aid worker whose body was found in Greece last month.
The victim, Elisabeth Jane Ross, was discovered in a suitcase at an abandoned building on 18 July, several days after she had been reported missing. According to the report, Ahmadzai is 26 and was brought to the court building in a grey Hyundai i30 with darkened windows.
Charges expected later in the day
Authorities arrested Ahmadzai on suspicion of homicide with intent, robbery and weapons offences. He arrived at the court shortly before 09:40 local time and is expected to be formally charged later this morning, according to the report.
The case has drawn attention in both Greece and Scotland as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding Ross’s death. The report says the court appearance marks the next stage in the legal process after the arrest.
