The health department of California announced on Wednesday that it was safe to continue using an existing batch of the COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna Inc. after a pause was enacted on Sunday. This hiatus was enforced as a result of possible allergic reactions to the vaccine.
According to Moderna, the biotech firm received a report from the California Department of Public Health explaining that several people at a testing center in San Diego were receiving treatment for possible allergic reactions after being administered with Moderna vaccinations.
After the pause was enacted, the state health department and various other U.S. authorities entered into discussions surrounding the need for the temporary ban.
The parties involved in the talks, among them the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, came to the conclusion that there was no scientific basis for continuing the pause.
With the ban lifted, Moderna confirmed that it would continue distributing the vaccine in California. The biotech company also explained that it is completely unaware of any form of any other adverse cases being detected in other health centers where its vaccine was administered.
