Valve’s original LCD Steam Deck has long stood out for being relatively easy to repair, but that reputation may be under pressure. According to a Reddit post highlighted by Video Cardz, an iFixit customer support reply said the company has no immediate plan to stock a replacement battery for the LCD model.
The message reportedly said iFixit is “actively evaluating aftermarket options,” but does not have a confirmed timeline for when either official or alternative stock might become available. A separate Reddit user who appears to work for iFixit later clarified that the issue is tied to Valve sunsetting the parts, rather than iFixit choosing to stop carrying them on its own.
What it could mean for Steam Deck owners
That development matters because battery replacements are one of the most important maintenance items for any portable device. While third-party batteries can still be found through retailers such as Amazon, the apparent loss of official OEM parts could make it harder for owners to keep the LCD Steam Deck running with manufacturer-backed components.
The news also arrives after a series of changes around Valve’s handheld line. The company discontinued the LCD Steam Deck entirely at the end of 2025, and after a period of stock shortages, Steam Deck OLED prices rose in May as Valve pointed to higher memory and storage costs. For some users, the parts situation may be a reminder that even a device known for repairability can become more difficult to maintain once official support starts thinning out.
