Samsung SDS, the IT services arm of Samsung Group, is in talks with Dunamu, the company behind South Korean crypto exchange Upbit, about stablecoin infrastructure, digital asset systems, and AI-based payment models, according to remarks from CEO Lee Jun-hee during the firm’s second-quarter earnings call.
Lee said Samsung SDS has already built up capabilities in digital asset infrastructure through its work on the Korea Securities Depository’s tokenized securities platform project and through end-to-end validation of the stablecoin process, from issuance through settlement. He added that a deeper relationship with Dunamu could help the company expand further in the digital asset infrastructure market.
The timing of the discussions comes shortly after Samsung Electronics announced plans to support stablecoins in Samsung Wallet, signaling a wider push across the Samsung group into digital assets. In May 2026, Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS, and Samsung Card agreed to acquire a combined 4% stake in Dunamu, strengthening ties between Samsung affiliates and South Korea’s crypto sector.
Lee reportedly described the Dunamu stake as a strategic investment rather than a financial one, saying the two companies intend to refine possible business models for digital financial infrastructure. The earnings presentation also highlighted Samsung SDS’s broader growth in AI and cloud services, with second-quarter revenue rising 5.9% year on year to 3.72 trillion Korean won, or about $2.6 billion. Cloud revenue increased 17% from a year earlier, while external cloud business revenue jumped 75% on demand for Samsung’s cloud platform and GPU-as-a-service offerings.
The company also outlined plans to expand its AI infrastructure capacity from 110 megawatts now to 230 MW by 2029 and more than 800 MW by 2031. Samsung SDS did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while Dunamu declined to comment.
