Philips has confirmed that a software update caused some Hue Bridge Pro smart lighting hubs to stop functioning, and it is offering free replacements to affected customers regardless of warranty status. The company said fewer than 100 devices were impacted.
The issue was linked to the 2071353020 firmware released in June. According to the report, the problem occurred only in a specific update scenario: users had automatic updates turned off, stayed on an older version for an extended period, and then manually installed the update after it had been stored on the device for more than 10 days.
Replacement process and fix
Philips said impacted owners can contact its support team to arrange a replacement. The company is also rolling out a new update intended to keep other Bridge Pro units from encountering the same failure. Users receiving a replacement will need to set it up from the beginning, which could take time because the hub can manage up to 150 lights and 50 accessories, along with shortcuts and schedules.
