Nvidia and Micron Are Looming Large in S&P 500 Tech Earnings

The second-quarter earnings season is gaining speed, with more than 300 companies set to report this week, including 85 members of the S&P 500. The lineup includes a wide mix of businesses across sectors, along with two closely watched Magnificent Seven names, Tesla and Alphabet. By the end of the week, investors should have a much clearer read on how corporate America is holding up.

So far, the early tone has been constructive. According to the report, a larger-than-usual share of companies is topping estimates, and management teams are generally sounding confident about both current conditions and near-term outlooks. Even though only about 10% of S&P 500 companies have reported so far, the initial results point to a healthy earnings environment.

The biggest story in the sector breakdown is the scale of tech’s influence. Total S&P 500 earnings for Q2 2026 are expected to rise 25.3% from a year earlier, with revenues up 11.9%. Of the 16 Zacks sectors, 11 are projected to post earnings growth, led by Energy, Tech, Basic Materials, and Finance. But the report notes that once Tech is removed, overall earnings growth drops sharply to 14.1%, underscoring how much the sector is lifting the index.

That concentration is even more visible in the Magnificent Seven. With two of those companies reporting this week, the group is expected to deliver 28.7% year-over-year earnings growth on 25.1% higher revenues. While that is slower than the prior quarter’s pace, it still represents meaningful strength. The report also points out that the broader market is not being carried only by the megacap names: even without the Magnificent Seven, the rest of the S&P 500 is still expected to show earnings growth in Q2. In that context, Nvidia and Micron stand out as especially influential in reshaping the tech earnings narrative for index investors.
