With less than a month to go before Mortal Shell 2 arrives, one of its physical editions has already disappeared from pre-order listings. Playstack said the £55 ($70) Revered Edition for PlayStation 5 is now fully reserved, after demand across several retailers outpaced expectations.
The edition is notable not only for its premium contents, but also because it is the only physical version of Mortal Shell 2 available on Sony’s console. That makes the sellout more striking at a time when the platform holder has been pushing more players toward digital purchases. The Revered Edition includes a steelcase, a physical artbook, fine art prints and other extras.
Limited supply ahead of the August launch
According to the publisher, stock is running low in an increasing number of markets, and there is little chance of more physical units reaching shelves before the game launches on 20 August. Playstack also cautioned that there is no certainty of a restock after release, saying that any decision on additional supply would depend on its distribution partner.
The standard £40 ($50) physical edition is still available at retail, so the sellout affects only the higher-priced PS5 package. Even so, the fast-moving pre-orders underline the continued appetite for disc-based releases among players, especially for a game that has become one of the year’s most anticipated. A recent PC beta was downloaded more than 500,000 times, adding to the momentum around the sequel.
