Deliveroo Plc has hired former Amazon Inc executive Devesh Mishra as their new chief product and technology officer, the food delivery company announced early this week. Mishra will be tasked with overseeing Deliveroo’s data science, design, engineering, and product development efforts, which form an integral part of the company’s expansion plans.
After a 16 year tenure at Amazon, during which he rose to the rank of vice president of the global supply chain, Mishra will move from Seattle to London in early September.
Deliveroo Chief Executive Officer Will Shu said the following of Mishra: “He has unique and unmatched experience in how technology can help to scale a business and deliver world-leading consumer experiences.”
Deliveroo’s decision to employ Mishra comes after previous Chief Product Officer Akshay Navle decided to leave the company for another company in the fintech space. Deliveroo CTO Dan Winn is expected to work closely alongside Mishra in his new role.
Faced with an increasing volume of competition, Deliveroo is aiming to strengthen its position against European rivals while warding off new market entrants from the United States.
While the company’s stock may have slumped shortly after its IPO, Deliveroo shares have steadily gained ground over the last few weeks, gaining 4.5% on Monday after Delivery Hero SE bought a 5.1% stake in the U.K. food delivery service.
