Firefly Aerospace confirmed on Tuesday that it has raised approximately $75 million in private capital funds. These new funds, which are just part of a two-phase effort to inject $400 million into the company, enable the company to edge ever closer to its goal of attaining a billion-dollar value by the end of this year.

Firefly, along with Virgin Orbit and New Zealand-based Rocket Lab, is one of the leading private aerospace firms that is building miniaturized launch systems as part of an effort to meet the growing number of compact satellites that need transport into orbit in the coming years.

Chief Executive Tom Markusic mentioned the following in a statement to Reuters: “In the upcoming year, Firefly is going to have so many conspicuous, big milestones. As long as we do our job, I’m confident we will be a multibillion-dollar company by the end of this year.”

Firefly’s next major milestone is the static fire test for its Alpha rocket, scheduled to take place on May 14. It is also in the process of developing a “Space Utility Vehicle”, which will be used for removing in-space debris, refueling, and satellite deployment.
