The Canadian province of Ontario revealed its plan to lift several COVID-19 health restrictions. Starting from Saturday at midnight, concert venues, theatres, sports stadiums, and other spectator facilities will be permitted to host a higher capacity of spectators than was previously permitted. Spectators will still, however, be required to provide proof of vaccination in order to gain entry.
The government of Ontario justified its decision to ease COVID-19 restrictions by referring to the dropping numbers of COVID-19 cases that have been detected in the settings that will be affected by the new rule.
A top Canadian health official stated on Friday that, according to predictive modeling, the country expects to experience a decline in COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.
To date, 82% of adults over the age of 12 in Ontario have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 82% have been fully vaccinated.
Due to these rising vaccination figures, the province began gradually easing health restrictions at the start of the summer, just before the fourth wave of COVID-19 cases hit the North American nation.
Ontario reported 573 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, a small percentage of the 4,000 new cases reported by Canada in total.
